Wallonia's energy premiums are income-based: the lower your income, the higher the grant. Four income categories (R1 to R4) determine the multiplier applied to base premium amounts. R1 (lowest income) receives 6x the base amount, while R4 receives 1x. The base amounts vary by work type: 20 EUR/m2 for wall insulation, 15 EUR/m2 for roof insulation, 1,000-4,000 EUR for heating systems. An energy audit (PAE) is required for most premiums and adds a 150 EUR bonus.
Base amounts multiplied by income category factor. Example: wall insulation base 20 EUR/m2 x factor 6 (R1) = 120 EUR/m2 for lowest-income households. Heat pump base 3,000 EUR x factor 3 (R2) = 9,000 EUR.

Wallonia assigns you to categories R1 (lowest income) through R4 (highest). R1 gets 6x the base premium, R2 gets 3x, R3 gets 2x, R4 gets 1x. Your category is based on fiscal income relative to household size.
An energy audit (PAE - Procedure d'Avis Energetique) is required for most premiums and costs around 150 EUR. It's reimbursed as a bonus on top of the work premium. The audit identifies the most impactful renovations for your building.
